slow day at the library- maybe now I can dedicate my time to blogging- it will be mostly recipies
About Me
- Emilie
- a little about me... My hobbies are cooking (and eating), birdwatching, traveling, reading, bicycling and walking (when the weather allows). Also, I enjoy going to the movies and some television- right now I like the Good Wife and Mad Men. After many years of being in the convention and travel industry I decided to slow down and try library work instead. I am currently working at the College of Lake County library while also going to school to become a Library Technical Assistant (LTA). I'm married but no kids, but I am a great-aunt to 2 nieces and 2 nephews whom I adore and love to spend time with.

new things coming to this blog!!
Okay- so the other day I was speaking to a friend who thinks that I should be sharing more on this blog. In other words I should make it more interesting than just 'journal/diary like'. Well, I thought about this and decided that maybe she's right. She suggested I post recipes, so I'm going to give that a try.
Check back again soon for more information and delicious recipes!!

GET LOW
Last night we watched the movie Get Low with Robert Duvall and Bill Murray. Interesting concept- Duvall plays an old man with a secret past who decides to throw himself a funeral party while he's still alive and to make it interesting and to make sure people show up he sells tickets for a raffle on his house and property- Great idea don't you think?

end of summer
Well! next week a new semester begins. I can't believe that my 'summer' is over. It was hot, rainy, humid and just plain uncomfortable most of the time. Is spent alot of time daydreaming about Maui, the ocean, the breeze and the pool at the Marriott Maui-now that is the life.
However, I am excited about the fall- the weather will be cool, I am taking 2 classes, it will be a challenge but I hope it will pay off in the long run. so it will be a busy time no doubt. Can't wait to get back to a routine, also I'm going backt o 2x a week workout with my sister in law. Don't like what is happening to my body so I will try to stop it or at least delay it if at all possible- Will post on results as they occur.

Another rainy day - hot and humid
Work keeps us from three great evils: boredom...vice... and poverty!

Finally!
Wow! what a week it's been...the storm that came through Lake County last Monday was something else!! it lasted only 15 minutes but it did alot of damage. I was lucky in that my house was not damaged and only the tree in my front yard was touched- we lost a two branches, a major one and a smaller one. When the branches came down so did a robin's nest that had 3 tiny chicks- we tried to save them but no luck. We were without power for 58 hours- I don't wish to go through that again anytime soon!
We are lucky and thankful - damage was minimal.

Caged Birds
The young finch asked the old one why he wept:
"There's comfort in this cage where we are kept."
"You who were born here may well think that's so,
But i knew freedom once, and wept to know."

TIME TO LAUGH!
Best Things to say if Caught Sleeping At Your Office Desk...
"They told me at the blood bank this might happen."
"This is just a 15 minute power-nap as described in that time management course you sent me."
"I wasn't sleeping! I was meditating on the mission statement and envisioning a new paradigm."
"I was doing Yoga exercises to relieve work-related stress."
"Someone must've put decaf in the wrong pot..."
You know you work in Corporate America in the 90's if...
You sat at the same desk for 4 years and worked for three different companies.
You worked for the same company for 4 years and sat at more than 10 different desks.
You've been in the same job for 4 years and have had 10 different managers.
When someone asks about what you do for a living, you can't explain it in one sentence.
You get really excited about a 2% pay raise.
You use acronyms in your sentences.
Your biggest loss from a system crash is that you lose your best jokes.
You sit in a cubicle smaller than your bedroom closet.
It's dark when you drive to and from work.
Fun is when issues are assigned to someone else.
The word "opportunity" makes you shiver in fear.
You see a good looking person and know it is a visitor.
Free food left over from meetings is your main staple.
Weekends are those days your significant other makes you stay home.
Art involves a white board.
You're already late on the assignment you just got.
Dilbert cartoons hang outside every cube and are read by your co-workers only.
Your boss' favorite lines are "when you get a few minutes" or "when you're freed up".
You read this entire list and understood it.

Thoughts for a rainy day
"Quickly bring me a beaker of wine, so that I may wet my mind and say something clever."
"Old men are children for a second time."
"A man's homeland is wherever he prospers."
"My family history begins with me, but yours ends with you."
"Educated men are as much superior to undeducated men as the living are to the dead."
"All men by nature desire knowledge."
"For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them."
